Home Sweet Rome

May 1, 2015

Hotel De Russie, Via del Babuino 9, Rome 0018 : The address to our Casa di Roma.

We were perfectly centrally located near the Villa Borghese Park, Piazza de Popolo and of course — some great shopping. Due to wet weather, we spent a majority of our time in the hotel, so thank God our Womanista, Cassie Kelley, gave us the perfect recommendation! We’ve spent the last month adventuring down every European avenue, so a relaxing time at the hotel gym+spa was right up our Italian alley. We indulged in…

  • 80 minute couples massage
  • 90 minute Swiss Perfection facial| Hotel de Russie
  • Swiss “Glow” Facial
  • Morning “Art Running” to see some of Rome’s secret nooks with the on sight personal trainer – Danillo Palmucci.
  • Gym – who knows, you just might just see Owen Wilson there…
  • 100% Capri Linen Shop | Hotel de Russie
  • Rossini & Sazerac cocktails in the lounge

Once we were done soaking up some good R & R time in the spa, we figured it was time to bring out the umbrellas and keep it from raining on our tour parade. I cannot stress the importance of a professional and private tour enough. I first used Best Europe Tours three years ago while traveling with Nini, Kim, John & family (Maine family AKA: my second family.) We made friends with our tour guide, Roberto, who takes you through the city on a golf cart (so fun!) and spares you the boring details and gives you the information you want to leave knowing. This time, Tyler and I had Victor as our tour guide and he exceeded all of our expectations.

He left us with this, “Rome is like lasagna. Layers on top of layers on top of layers of history.”

Next time we fully plan on taking the tour company’s authentic cooking classes and learning how to make such a lasagna. We were told they take you to the market and you do hands on cooking with authentic instructors in the local neighborhood. Next year, we are doing it… hold me to that, and then I’ll be sharing the recipes.

Our welcome home was as American as it gets… not to mention spectacular. We went straight to Rodeo Houston where the guys had an interview with Dan Rather, who is the sweetest man in the world, btw. I watched the guys do the best interview they’ve ever done and then they played in front of 75,000+ people.  Just when I thought I couldn’t have been more proud of them across the pond, I was even more proud back in the states. It feels good to be home.
