I’m so excited to share with you all one of our FAVORITE morning rituals! Now, before you go scrolling through the photos, and decide you would never make or like a green smoothie, just hear me out.

I discovered this particular smoothie, The Glowing Green Smoothie by Kimberly Snyder; she’s not only a well-known and loved nutritionist, but she’s also a New York Times bestselling author of  The Body Detox Solutions and The Body Detox Foods. She’s the real deal! Kimberly has a wealth of information on healthy eating, the food that we put into our body, and how (and why) eating our greens is so so important!

I make this smoothie almost every morning for Tyler and myself, and not just when we’re home, but when we’re traveling on the bus as well. It’s a great way to get almost all the greens you’ll need for the day, and the best part is… It’s all in ONE glass!

“Hayley said I don’t have to eat anymore salad for the rest of the day!” – Tyler

The Glowing Green Smoothie

I’ve made this for family, friends and employees of ours and they have all LOVED this smoothie! Its nutritional value is incredible, and did you know that greens have more nutrients than any other food? Since we first started drinking The Glowing Green Smoothies Tyler and I look and feel better.  Our bodies are getting the nutrients they need that help us glow from the inside out! Tyler jokes that he can feel instant results from his morning smoothies. HA!

“I can already feel a 6-pack coming on!” – Tyler

Below, I’ve listed the directions and ingredients for The Glowing Green Smoothie, and I’ve added a few little tweaks of my own to let you know exactly how we make these at the Hubbard house! ENJOY!!

I like to prep all my ingredients either the night before or early that morning before Tyler gets up.   This just helps speed up the process if you don’t have a lot of time in the morning like us. When you get home from the market (if you have time) clean your celery and romaine lettuce to make for easier and more efficient mornings. Eating healthy takes time and energy, but it’s WORTH IT! Your body will thank you in more ways than you can count.

** My additions

1/2 medium green apple, cored and coarsely chopped (can add other half for more sweetness)

1/3 medium browned banana, peeled **

1/2 orange, peeled

1/2 lemon – no peel**

4 tbsp aloe, peeled**

1/2 Avocado**

3-5 cups chopped spinach (about a medium bunch or to taste)

1 basil leaf**

3 lacinato kale leaves**

2 tsp Spirulina – I use the Earthrise brand**

2 cups cold filtered water

1 cup Almond Milk **

1/4 cucumber, chopped**

1 large carrot**

1-2 tbsp Turmeric root – peeled**

1-2 tbsp Ginger root – peeled**

1⁄4 cup fresh cilantro (stems are okay)(optional)

1⁄2 cup fresh parsley (stems are okay)(optional)

1 tbsp Flaxseed** (optional)

  • I highly recommend Vitamix, but any blender will do.

1. Combine the spinach, basil, kale and water in a blender and begin processing on low. Gradually move to higher speeds and blend until smooth.

2. Next, add the, apple, carrot, cucumber, lemon, orange, aloe and the cilantro and parsley (if using). Lastly, add the almond milk, banana, avocado, Turmeric root, Ginger root, Spirulina and Flaxseed (if using), and blend until smooth. Serve at once or refrigerate, covered, for up to 2½- 3 days.

Note: If you have a Vitamix you can put everything in at once and blend until smooth.

I just made this and my husband loved it! It’s super yummy. I have a quick question… In your pictures there is a cucumber. Did you forget to add it to the recipe?

Otherwise, I love your additions to the Green Smoothie recipe. I have had that one before, but I love the idea of adding spirulina and flax.

I also love your blog. Well done!

Sounds yummy! I plan on swapping out our green juice with this to shake it up a bit. Do you ever use a juicer instead of a blender?

Thanks for posting this, I saw you post your morning liquid line up on Instagram a few weeks ago and had been wondering what the ingredients were in the green smoothie. I am going to give it a try, thanks again.

I’m excited to try these smoothies Hayley. My husband and I are trying to eat better and have been reading up on green eating. As we age (we are in our 50’s) we’ve realized that our eating habits are more important than anything else. Thank you for sharing your good habits!

OMG so good! I’ve been blending a similar fresh green veggie drink for about a year but this recipe with your changes is much better. Thanks for the tips.
